Making Picture Book Magic and Susanna Leonard Hill

After leaving the nurturing environment of Hollins, I decided to explore writing workshops as a means to develop my writing craft. Making Picture Book Magic hosted by Susanna Leonard Hill proved to be a valuable experience.

A New York Times bestseller. Cute book!

Susanna offers two workshop options: Interactive and Self-Study. I did the interactive first and was impressed by how well thought out her lessons were. It was fun to see how each participant interpreted the lesson as it pertained to the story they were writing. Recently, I tried the self-study version to give myself a much-needed nudge when I got stuck on a story. It had been a few years since I’d done this workshop, so I approached the lessons from a different perspective as a developing writer.

Another cute book by Susanna.

Not only does Susanna offer a well-structured writing program, she creates a community of support. She has a strong social media presence, and I also subscribe to her newsletter, which offers valuable insight into the various aspects of storytelling for children.

I strongly recommend Making Picture Book Magic, especially if you’re new to the world of writing for children, and it’s budget friendly! You can find her workshops on her website at https://susannahill.com/for-writers/making-picture-book-magic/
